Vultr
Easier UX, wider global coverage, higher EU price.
Provider profile · Observed 2026-03-10
Europe's largest cloud provider by infrastructure scale, with a product portfolio that spans VPS, bare metal, managed services, and public cloud. Competitive pricing, but a steeper learning curve than developer-focused alternatives.
Visit OVHcloud ↗One-line verdict: OVHcloud is the right call for experienced operators with European compliance requirements who want competitive pricing and infrastructure breadth — not a beginner-friendly platform.
OVH (now rebranded as OVHcloud) is one of the most significant cloud infrastructure companies you've probably never thought about. Founded in France in 1999, they own and operate their own data centers, cabling, and hardware — an unusual degree of vertical integration that contributes to their competitive pricing.
Their VPS lineup starts below €4/mo and includes anti-DDoS protection by default across all plans — a meaningful differentiator for exposed public services. Their network infrastructure is substantial, with distributed points of presence across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.
The trade-off is a control panel that has historically felt complex compared to Linode or Vultr. OVHcloud is built for operators, not developers discovering the cloud for the first time.

| Plan | RAM | vCPU | Storage | Bandwidth | Price/mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VPS Starter | 2 GB | 1 | 20 GB SSD | 100 Mbit/s | €3.99 |
| VPS Value | 4 GB | 2 | 80 GB SSD | 250 Mbit/s | €7.99 |
| VPS Essential | 8 GB | 4 | 160 GB SSD | 500 Mbit/s | €14.99 |
| VPS Comfort | 16 GB | 6 | 320 GB SSD | 1 Gbit/s | €29.99 |
Note: OVHcloud VPS plans are unmetered bandwidth up to the port speed limit rather than a monthly data cap. Anti-DDoS included. Storage SSD type varies by plan — NVMe available on higher tiers.
OVHcloud has substantial European coverage plus selected global regions. Their global network footprint is larger than Hetzner but more EU-heavy than Vultr.
Europe: Multiple French datacenter locations plus Germany, UK, and Poland — excellent EU coverage. North America: Canada presence is solid (Beauharnois is a major OVH facility). US nodes are available but limited city options. Asia: Singapore and Sydney — decent for SEA and Australia but no Tokyo or Seoul node. China routing from foreign providers remains challenging regardless.
Practical note: OVH's base VPS prices are very competitive. Snapshot and backup costs are where the total rises. Budget accordingly for anything beyond bare compute.
Both are EU-based providers with competitive pricing. Hetzner's EU pricing is often slightly lower and its user experience is considered cleaner by most developers. OVHcloud has a broader product portfolio (bare metal, public cloud, managed Kubernetes), more EU datacenter locations, and Windows support.
Bottom line: Pure VPS in EU → Hetzner slightly edges it. Need product breadth, Windows, or anti-DDoS included → OVH makes more sense.
OVHcloud's VPS pricing is lower at comparable specs. Linode's developer experience is significantly better — cleaner panel, better docs, easier onboarding. For EU users, OVH's data sovereignty angle is stronger.
Bottom line: Budget-conscious EU deployment with ops experience → OVH. Want the easier platform globally → Linode.
OVHcloud rewards operators who know what they're doing — competitive EU pricing, built-in DDoS protection, and serious infrastructure breadth make it worth evaluating for teams with EU compliance requirements or mixed compute needs.
